The Central Sumatra Coffee (CSC), comprising 400 farmers dispersed across 450 hectares, cultivates coffee in the dense, volcanic loam soils—an intricate blend of sand, silt, and clay. These soils, in conjunction with the region's climate, provide an ideal but harsh environment for coffee cultivation.
"Kamala" translates to both "lotus" and "pale red" in Sanskrit. This name reflects the exploration into what these coffee lots become under the experimental yet meticulously controlled post-harvest techniques. Kamala presents an array of complex and unconventional flavours—fruity, boozy, and otherworldly. These distinctive notes are achieved through predominantly anaerobic natural methods and trial-based inoculants.
