Sítio Prata is a distinguished specialty coffee from the southern Minas Gerais region of Brazil, cultivated on an 8-hectare farm in Nova Resende. This coffee reflects a family's unwavering commitment to coffee growing, with the farm situated at an altitude between 1,100 - 1,200 metres above sea level. The fertile latosol and argisol soils here contribute to the coffee's unique flavour profile. The beans, predominantly the Yellow Catuai varietal, are processed using a natural anaerobic method. After being harvested, they are carefully screened to a size grade of 16up, ensuring consistency and quality in each batch.
The lore of Sítio Prata is deeply entwined with the family's long-standing connection to coffee cultivation. Marlene, a central figure in the farm's day-to-day operations, grew up working alongside her father in the coffee fields, gaining invaluable knowledge and expertise over the years. Alongside her husband, Osvaldo Bachião, she now manages the farm with a deep respect for tradition and a strong focus on quality. The farm is fully mechanised, allowing for an efficient harvesting process, which includes a two-stage collection system to ensure that only cherries at the perfect stage of ripeness are selected.
Sítio Prata also stands out for its dedication to environmental sustainability and community development. Through initiatives such as the Gerações Protocol and Donas do Café Especialíssimo programmes, the farm not only supports local communities but also promotes sustainable farming practices. Their partnership with SMC Specialty Coffees as the exporter and miller ensures that Sítio Prata's high standards are upheld and that this exceptional coffee reaches enthusiasts across the earth.
