Sumava de Lourdes is situated in the West Valley Region of Costa Rica. The farm cultivates a variety of coffee strains, including Caturra, Pacamara, Geisha, Mokka, and SL28. A distinguishing feature of the farm is its commitment to eco-friendly agricultural practices. Rather than relying heavily on herbicides and pesticides, the farm prioritises the use of natural minerals and mountain micro-organisms (MMs) to enhance soil health and productivity. Interestingly, upon purchasing the property, it was discovered that the land had previously served as a coffee research centre for the Costa Rican government, resulting in the presence of several unique coffee varieties used for experimental purposes.
At Sumava de Lourdes, innovation meets tradition, harnessing modern technologies and emerging trends in sustainable farming. Utilising eco-pulpers and a retention field, they ingeniously repurpose discarded water into nourishing fertiliser for their coffee plants.
