Drawn from the steep, unforgiving hills of Caranavi in Bolivia’s La Paz department, this offering comes from Finca San Lorenzo, a young yet fiercely focused farm founded in 2019 by Roxana Chambi. Nestled at an altitude of 1,550 MASL, the farm spans just five hectares, but what it lacks in scale, it makes up for in precision and intent. Coffee here is picked by hand with care.
San Lorenzo is not a relic of tradition, but a bold act of renewal. Roxana, part of a new guard of Bolivian producers, works in step with the violent rhythms of the Andes, terrain that is both punishing and deeply fertile. This northern corridor of La Paz, bordering Peru, is famed for its raw topography and abundant water, yielding coffees of immense clarity and structure.
This particular lot features Red Catuai, a cultivar born of Caturra and Mundo Novo, first released by Brazil’s Instituto Agronômico in the early seventies. In this highland crucible, it takes on new dimension, bright yet grounded, shaped by sun, soil, and sheer resolve.
