As Mayhem marks 40 years of blasphemous rule over black metal, Black Mass Roasters is honoured to seal this unholy collaboration. To commemorate this occassion, we’ve conjured a limited release that pays utmost respect to the band’s unyielding reign and dark legacy.

A fitting ritual for four decades of blasphemy, nihilism, and malice against all that is sacred.

Mayhem is the most influential and iconic band in the history of black metal, known for shaping the genre’s sound, image, and ethos. Formed in 1984 in Oslo, Norway, Mayhem was at the forefront of a movement that sought to reject mainstream culture and create something raw, aggressive, and deeply anti-establishment. They became synonymous with black metal's signature traits—furious blast beats, tremolo-picked guitar riffs, and shrieking, shrill vocals, all drenched in a cold atmosphere of nihilism and Satanism.

While Mayhem’s early years were steeped in extreme controversy and myth, their impact on the black metal scene is undeniable. Their landmark album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994), widely regarded as the defining works of black metal, remains a cornerstone of the genre. It captured the raw intensity and dark atmosphere that black metal was meant to convey, with themes of death, darkness, and the occult running throughout.

Beyond their music, Mayhem helped define the visual and ideological elements of black metal. Their iconic corpse paint, studded leather, and spikes, along with their uncompromising stance on anti-religion, anti-commercialism, and personal freedom, became hallmarks of the black metal aesthetic. They were key figures in the Norwegian black metal scene, influencing countless bands that followed and cementing their legacy as the genre’s true pioneers.

Now, as Mayhem celebrates 4 decades of existence, they remain a vital force in black metal, continuing to push boundaries with each release. Their ability to evolve while staying true to their roots is a testament to their undying relevance in a genre that is constantly in flux.

Mayhem’s journey is not just about surviving the trials and tribulations of being a band; it's about defining what it means to be truly blackened—to embrace the chaos.
