Herly Urquia owns and manages Finca Caviflor in the Montecillos region of Honduras. This 20-hectare farm has 18 hectares planted with coffee, while the remainder is planted with oranges, bananas, and strawberries.
On his property, Herly tends to around 38,000 healthy coffee trees, predominantly of the Catuai and IHCAFE 90 varieties.
The farm is well-known for its abundance of wild birds, particularly hummingbirds, which are a common sight fluttering around the coffee plants and other fruits. At present, Herly is in the process of constructing new fermentation tanks as he continues to experiment with different processing techniques.
The Montecillos region is famed for its dramatic changes in altitude and breathtaking landscape. The steep terrain brings cool evenings, which are ideal for coffee cultivation. Situated near the border with El Salvador, this area lies in the southwest corner of the country.
While this offering cannot be traced to a single variety, it is likely to contain a blend of Bourbon, Catuai, Caturra, IHCAFE 90, and Lempira — the varieties most commonly grown in this region.
