This exceptional coffee was cultivated by Luis Anibal Calderón at Finca Villa Betulia, a farm he first purchased in 2005. Located in the heart of Colombia, Villa Betulia is home to Luis Anibal, his wife, and their three sons. Since 2012, when he planted his first 5,000 Geisha trees, the farm has become a showcase for speciality coffee varieties. Over the years, the remarkable returns from cultivating Geisha led him to dedicate the entirety of his land to more delicate and rare varieties, including Pink Bourbon, Tabi, Java, Sidra, and several others.
This particular microlot, 100% Gesha, is a testament to his dedication. First discovered in Abyssinia, Ethiopia in 1931, the Gesha varietal was introduced to Panama in 1963 and later to Colombia in 2005. The cherries from this lot are harvested under strict ripeness criteria, meticulously floated, and hand-sorted to remove any defects. They undergo a rigorous process, including 30 hours of underwater fermentation before being pulped. Afterward, the parchment is gently washed and dried under controlled conditions, ensuring the ideal moisture content is achieved.
Villa Betulia's commitment to quality and precision in every step of cultivation and processing is reflected in the exceptional flavour profile of this Gesha, a varietal that continues to honour the legacy of both Luis Anibal’s family and the craft of Colombian coffee.
